Sharing and Social Media

A note about experiencing the conference remotely and sharing it on social media: As organizers, we have tried to strike a balance between publicizing these very important issues and creating a safe space for participants to discuss experiences that may be private or painful. Here is what we have come up with:

Streaming: None of the conference will be livestreamed.

Video: The Friday evening keynote by Caryl Rivers will be videotaped. The recording will be posted following the conference.

Audio: All other plenary conference sessions will be audiotaped and transcribed. The recordings and/or transcripts will be made available following the conference.

Note-taking: Note-takers will be present during the sessions on diversity and harassment for the purposes of record-keeping and producing summaries of the sessions.

Tweeting (#sciwrisum14): We encourage live-tweeting of the Friday keynote, Saturday morning plenary, Saturday afternoon mentoring panel, Sunday morning plenary and wrap-up, and Sunday afternoon recap (hosted by NESW). To encourage candor and focus and guard against accidental misquotation, we request that participants not livetweet the Saturday diversity and harassment sessions or the Sunday breakouts.

Materials: Conference materials from all sessions will be posted following the conference, along with session summaries and links to blog posts and other recaps.
